Indoor Air Quality

The majority of our lives are spent indoors, so we must pay attention to what we’re breathing while we are inside. The quality of our air can be directly linked to symptoms like headaches, fatigue, trouble concentrating, dry eyes, nasal congestion, nausea, and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. Even diseases have been connected to contaminated air. Although there are many machines available to help filter the air, The American Lung Association recommends keeping the pollutants from being in the air in the first place.

Five Ways to Limit Air Pollutants

  1. Kill mold with a whole-house air purifier
  2. Kill germs with UVC light
  3. Use disinfection technology of ultraviolet light
  4. Control odors by transforming VOC molecules into water vapor and CO2
  5. Clean coils in air system

UVC Light

UVC light is the most effective for killing microbes/germs because the short wavelength penetrates the microorganisms’ cell walls and scrambles their DNA. UVC light is filtered out by the earth’s atmosphere leaving microbes no chance.

Consistent air filtration can be the key to an improved indoor quality of air. We recommend installing a new filter every month during the cooler seasons. The higher the minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) on a scale of 1-12, the better.

Generator Maintenance

Generators keep your home running when something causes a power outage. Power outages are not uncommon in Florida when we have severe storms. When the time comes that you need your generator to kick on, you want to have the assurance that it will work.

At Forward Electric and Air Conditioning, we offer bi-annual maintenance programs for generators. Generators are an important part of your home that you need to work every time it’s needed. However, they are electro-mechanical devices that are hopefully not used all that often. Since they are sitting unused more often than being used, it’s important to schedule maintenance to ensure they are in working condition when they are needed. They can collect dirt and dust or have fuel clogs which can cause it to break down.

Don’t wait for the next power outage to find out your generator isn’t working properly. Keep it in optimal working condition all year round with regularly scheduled maintenance. Since generators are connected to your home’s electrical panel, it’s imperative not to try to repair it yourself and to call a trained electrician.
